Is it wrong to fear Islam?

I keep hearing all these "PC" things in news articles about how Islam is a religion of peace and how it's tolerant of other religions, but I have a very hard time believing it.

Muslims say that terrorists "are giving Islam a bad name" and "don't represent the true Islam." But come on folks, they've got to be getting this ideology from somewhere.

Another line of BS I hear is that not liking Islam is being ignorant and hateful. Being fearful of Islam is not the same as hating Muslims. I don't hate Muslims. I work with some very nice Muslims. But it's the ideology that I think is dangerous.

If Islam is so benign, then why did so many Muslims go berserk over the Mohammed cartoons? Because their religion was insulted? Does that give them the right to fight and kill? If they believe that is justified, then that idealogy should be feared, shouldn't it?

Why is it that when a terrorist attack happens, Muslims living in the West don't speak out against it? Are they afraid?
