Teaching Autistic Child to read?

I received an answer to my last question on teaching a 6 year old with Austism how to speak, because he's trying to learn. She suggested working on his reading skills with him.

Does anyone know any resources I can use? I have "The Phonics Game" at home because my mum picked it up years ago; i don't know if it was actually ever used...

How do I go about teaching him to read? Do I pick level 1 books and read them to him or do I read slowly and encourage him to repeat after me?
