Are all synthetic automotive oils created equal AND if you change to synthetic...
...can you ever change back? I am considering switching to a full synthetic motor oil for my 1/2 ton Chevy Suburban (168,000 miles) and my Chevy 2500 HD pickup (65,000 miles). My mechanic recommended Mobil 1. Are there any differences in synthetic motor oils? So, I have two questions.
1. Which synthetic motor would be best for my vehicles? 2. Is it true that once you change to a synthetic oil you can't ever change back to standard motor oil? |

I use Mobil 1 along with the Mobil 1 oil filter. Never had an oil related problem in my car and I just wish I had started running synthetics years ago in my other cars.
First: if your car is burning or using or leaking oil with dinosaur oil it will be worse with synthetic. If it is a tight well kept engine, switching to synthetic should not pose any problems. It will make the engine last longer and run better. Hot temps, cold temps are handled better with a full synthetic oil. Changing back should not pose any problems either as both synthetic and dino oil do the same job. Synthetics just do the job better and for longer (extended oil change intervals). |
