Question about a career in Journalism?

I'd love to be a journalist but I just have a few questions. i want to live in NYC, but would it be too expensive for a journalist? How much do journalists usually make their first year out? Journalism and NYC has always been my dream, but how do I get there?

For a beginner like you it is impossible to get a job at the New York Times or WSJ. You should start in a small town, in a provincial newspaper and after a few years try your luck in NYC. But right now don't even think of it. Start in the suburbs!
