I want to be a model/actress but my parents wants me to do a career in medicine,
what should I do? Should I first start a career in medicine, which I will probably finish when I'm age 25/26, then start my dream of being a model/actress, or should I just tell my parents I don't want to anything in medicine? Which means I'll have apart job in medicine and a model/actresss or should I just do medicine job? If I do modeling/acting I will have to move from Houston to somewhere in California and hopely start auditions and hope to make it.

Why not do both? Your young enough to accomplish both however Medicine is a more promising career than modeling/acting. If by chance you do get into acting, you have to consider and really ask yourself do you have the "IT" factor. I don't know if you ever been to California but the entertainment business is hard to tackle. If you do get an audition, you have to consider what you have to do for the part. To many men in the business take advantage of girls trying to get into the biz, so be careful and do your homework on relocating to California, it's really expensive.

If you are not passionate about a career in medicine, you won't make it through med school. It's that simple. Medical school is one of the most demanding disciplines and only the smartest, the fittest, and the most passionate about medicine are going to succeed. So if you are not even luke warm about the idea, forget it. Are your parents adamant about the medical career, or are they just hoping you have some kind of job security so you can look after yourself when you get out on your own?
Acting/modelling is a really iffy situation. For every thousand girls who try to get into the business, only a handful ever succeed. And you do need training, to be either an actress or a model. It isn't enough just to be pretty, you have to know how to respond to the camera, if you're a model, how to play different roles - so you can model for teenage fashion one day and sophisticated outfits another and be believable in both. For an acting career you need to learn so much - how to act, the differences between stage acting and television or film acting, presentation, projection, delivery, diction, the list goes on and on. Neither is an easy thing to do. Neither medicine nor acting/modelling lends itself to being a part time job, and both call for whole hearted commitment. You might want to have a long talk with your parents and find out what other options are available to you. Whatever career you choose, it should be your choice, because you can't live their dreams for them. But if they are financing your university education, they will want to have some input into what you are doing. |
