WLAN problems afte reinstalling Vista on Fujitsu Siemen Amilo LI 1718

I had so much trouble with this issue I am making this thread to help anyone with the same problem

Basically..
I bought a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo LI 1718 laptop
I wanted to delete the original Vista install and remove all the preinstalled crap
so after no problems I had a clean Vista install
it was only then that the problems started..

Firstly the wlan light wouldn't come on so I couldn't even get wireless access
So eventually I solved this by installing the Launch Manager from the install driver and utilities disc
So now I have the wlan light coming on but I cant connect to my GLink router

After a lot of testing eventually I found the solution which was to connect to the net using the ethernet cable and then goto windows update and update with all updates
theres an update in there specifically for the Atheros card and this will get the wireless connection working with this type of router

doesnt seem too difficult when I type it but to find this solution wasnt easy

wow, cool that you found what the issue was...don't you hate that crap! I wish they wouldn't pre-load the HDD's with mountains of poop!

yea its terrible and sometimes very difficult to find the solution online but a lot easier than without
just wanna give somethin back and hopefully save some stressing

kudos for you for doing that! I hate searching for a problem, finding a lead, but it's like with "expert sex change" or something where they want you to $join$ the site to find the answer

actually come to think of it it might be experts exchange

ahh I have fallen for that too (not the sex change) but you see a teaser for what you think you have been searching for all night then you must pay to get the solution
I wouldn't pay on principle though
