Is Internet Explorer a free browser software ?

I am using IE 6 , so i want to upgrade it to IE 7.....can I download it freely...is there any security risks ...i have XP SP2..
Is IE 7 popular than IE 6 ?

ya IE7 is free.
IE7 contains somewhat better security.
and also includes tabs.
it's a bit different than IE6
but not much.
easy to adapt to.

IE7 is free and it is so much better than IE6. I would never go back to IE6. IE7's interface is clean, looks nice, and the features are great. Plus with one great addon (ie7pro.com) it get's even better.

It is free, and you should probably download it for the sake of being able to properly interface with Microsoft websites, but that having been said, Firefox is also free, has all the features IE 7 has, and it had them 3 years before IE 7 did. That's why Firefox is my default browser. Sometimes I forget I even have IE 7.
