Question Ebay...a limit to what you'd spend for 1 item?

I'm getting ready to buy (upgrade) to a new camera body, going from the Canon Rebel XTi (400D) to the more stout 40D.

There were 3 auctions last night I could have bid on but didn't for one reason or another:

1) It was past my bedtime
2) One of them "didn't offer" shipping insurance
3) I figured the other two would be bid up since they had so many bids prior.

Is there a limit you'd spend on a single auction?

Like with the case of #1, he had been a member since 199 but didn't have any feedback?? I thought that was weird. Don't get me wrong, I think he was completely on the level but for some reason I shyed away from it!

In any case if I bought it from a reputable online store today I'd have to shell out $200+ than what the auctions ended for.

I remember when I was collecting vinyl to mix with that I spent quite a lot on ebay
something like when you try to buy all the music you had on tape when CDs came out or DVDs from movies
but I was kinda going backwards
anyway I think I was lucky in that I never got ripped off and always got what I expected
My friend lost £600 on a laptop though which was nasty
I think I would be kinda scared to bid much more than £150
If its paid via credit card you can chargeback I think but most payments are probably cheque still so bit risky

ha-ha, I remember the days of doing the tape to cd thing, thankfully a lot of my tapes sucked so I didn't even bother with CD

I'm trying to remember the most I've spent on an auction, maybe $600 is what I can remember most recently be it 7 or 9 months ago.

not sure why I was gun shy last night. why you'd have an auction that would end @ 12:33am is beyond me though!

I think if you get a little spooked by something then you will pull out
there are ways to try an get your money back if someone is trying to con you but I wouldnt put a lot of faith in them

use your instincts and if it looks too good to be true..it probably is

I know people who've bought cars before, so I'd say 50k is the most .

Yeah. As long as there was nothing wrong with it.

As soon as I got it, I'd turn around and sell it for 75k. Maybe drive it a few times...

I don't think there is a limit i'd spend, as long as it's a reasonable price for the item in question.
