How can i improve my knowledge of rock music and similar genres?

I Love rock music, esp. prog rock and blues rock, but i don't know very few bands or even the latest albums. I usually get to know abt them thru my brother's collection and guy friend's cds.
Most of these bands dont even get enough air play on radio and tv. It is usually hip hop and pop that plays.
I really want to know more, even stuff like what is a lead guitar and bass guitar, etc.
I know stuff from the 70's to now, my parents being my biggest source interest in music..I know thebands and perhaps their hits.but i'd like to know more.
Would like to know more about Muse.

Talking to people who know about these things is always a good idea. Also, you could try reading magazines such as Kerrang! because they are a great way to keep up to date with your favourite bands or to find out about new ones. Also, try Kerrang!TV and if you can get it in your area, Kerrang Radio, because they play the sorts of music you are after.

As a massive fan of prog rock myself, i recommend you try Muse, if you haven't already.

Muse are a prog-rock band, who formed in Teignmouth, Devon, under the dodgy name "Rocketbaby dolls". They now have five amazing albums:
"showbiz"
"origin of symmetry"
"absolution"
"black holes and revelations"
and the b-sides album "hullabaloo".
They recently played Wembley Stadium in London.

Rock on xx
