Sandra B. is on a distinguished road
Can you defend free will AND remain true to basic Christian doctrine?

I'm hoping for an answer that conforms to doctrine (i.e., a legitimate answer).

Answer the questions, below, AND comply with these doctrines:
God is infallible.
The 4 gospels of the New Testament are the gospel truth.
Jesus is God
Jesus died for your sins

The disciples asked Jesus how to pray. He taught them the Lord's Prayer, which has 2 passages that deny free will:

1.) "Thy will be done. On earth as it is in heaven"
2.) "and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil"

QUESTIONS:

If God's "will" is predestined, is the future not fixed?

If God leads us (or not) into temptation and delivers us (or not) from evil, how can we have free will?

The Lord's Prayer is taught by Jesus (God in the flesh) to his hand-picked disciples. The prayer is from GOSPEL...not Old Testament. You can't have it both ways. Jesus/God is infallible or not. The Gospels are gospel or not.

Why did Jesus die on the cross if we're the way God wants us? Stick to doctrine and answer rationally.
My point is NOT about "interpretting" the passages incorrectly. The gospels of the New Testament are divinely inspired, if you don't take it literally, you're presuming to "clarify" or "improve" on it. In the words of George Bernard Shaw:

"No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says: He is always convinced that it says what he means."

The Old Testament is largely symbolic and, when taken literally, obviously stretches credibility in many places. However, the New Testament gospels are exactly that: GOSPELS. Gospel means gospel. There's no getting around the fact that they're supposed to be literal truth. If you're disagreeing with that, you should consult your priest or preacher (or maybe a dictionary).

So, at least for the Gospels, it is those who interpret (reword) the gospels who are mistaken . . . NOT those who take it literally.
