Each team has an offense and defense. They are not on the field at the same time. When the team is in possesion of the ball, their offense comes on to try and move the ball forward. When the other team has the ball, their defense comes on to try and stop them gaining yards.
A team has 4 tries to move the ball 10 yards (or maybe 20, it's been a while). If they cannot do this, the ball is given to the other team. Just the basics..

JUST JOKING Football: contact sport 11 players on both sides of the football offense, defense, special teams scoring:If a touchdown is made 6 points feild goals are 3, and extra points are 1 and2 pts.
